Seville

This largest city of more than 700,000 in southern Spain blends its Islamic and Christian legacies with narrow lanes, a grand cathedral built on the site of a mosque, the Alcazar, and fervent Holy Week festivals. The riches of Spain's explorers returned to Seville and decorated its cathedral. An impressive tomb dominates one corner with Columbus' remains, (most likely not). Orange trees line the streets and their sweet scent mingles with the taste of tapas, the percussion of flamenco, and the passion of bullfighting.
