Saguaro, the largest cactus, lives for several hundred years, a tough survivor in a land with little water. Lightning, wind, drought, and freezing are its main enemies. This plant efficiently stores water and its spines protect it from animals. The arms that develop as it ages impart a human quality to the saguaro.
