The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge links San Francisco and the East Bay. This bridge, one the busiest in the nation, carries 280,000 vehicles each day. The 8.4 mile span, including toll plaza, opened in 1936. Two decks carry five lanes of traffic each; the upper deck heads toward San Francisco. Lights along the cables outline the bridge at night.
