Golden Gate Park Band

Since 1882, the Golden Gate Park Band has performed on Sunday afternoons at the Spreckels Band Shell between the Academy of Sciences and the DeYoung Museum. Comprised mainly of musicians from Musicians Union Local 6, this band swings with show tunes, classical pieces, and themed performances on Bastille Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day and other ethnic festivals. The audience hums along, feet and wriggling shoulders dancing with youthful memories when their music was the pop music.
