In a Reno field, hundreds of balloons rise every September, floating on the breeze for a few hours around sunrise. Old and young alike wander the field among the multi-colored cloth sacks that slowly fill with hot air. Small wicker baskets called gondolas hold several people and tanks of fuel that throw long flames into the balloon to heat its air and keep it aloft.
