West Thumb and Lewis River

At the edge of Yellowstone Lake, a basin of hot springs and pools drain into the lake. West Thumb is viewed by walking along a half mile loop of boardwalks above the fragile, and hot, surface. Deep blue, steaming pools and bubbling pots of opaque white and gray, accented by thermophiles in brown and orange, show the volcanic geology that has given Yellowstone its unique character.
